Group meeting and AGM

Many thanks to everyone who attended our last meeting and stayed for our AGM on 25th January.

We had a very enjoyable interactive session discussing some of the most frequently asked questions about cardiac devices and hearing some more of our member’s experiences.

We’re pleased that all of the existing committee were re-elected at the AGM to run the support group in the coming year. There is one space vacant on the committee for someone to help manage the website; if you have these skills and can spare a small amount of time, please let us know!

Next Meeting 25th January 2024

Our next meeting will be held as usual in the small hall at Arbury Community Centre at 2pm on 25th January.

We will have an interactive question and answer session to explore knowledge and experience of living with a device. This will be an informal group session which we hope everyone will enjoy alongside provided refreshments.

This will be followed by our AGM. Please do stay for this and give us your input on what you’d like from the support group in the coming year! If you’d like to get involved in the running of the group, please get in touch. We in particular would like help with keeping the website up to date.

In need of a support?

We have a network of ‘buddies’ who are available for 1:1 support in between meetings. If you have a question about living with your cardiac device, or just want to know you aren’t facing this journey alone, please get in touch via email and we’ll put you in touch with someone.

Our next group meeting is planned for 25th January 2024, looking forward to seeing you there!

Resuscitation training

Our next meeting is scheduled for 2pm on 12th October 2023, to be held at Arbury Community Centre. Please note this is a Thursday, not our usual Wednesday, due to room availability.

We are pleased to be joined by a First Aid and Health and Safety Trainer, who will provide some training and a practical demonstration on how to do CPR and and how to use an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) found in community buildings etc. There will be an opportunity to practice these skills yourself, but this is not required.

We would like to particularly encourage our members to bring along a partner, carer, family member who would also be interested in learning these very valuable skills.

As usual there will be an opportunity for question and answers, and chat with group members over a tea or coffee. New and old group members and partners, friends and family all welcome.

12 July meeting

Thank you to everyone who attended our meeting on 12 July. It was great to see some new faces and we hope you enjoyed the session and found the conversation useful.

We were joined by Stephen Clarke from Medtronic who brought along a simulator to demonstrate real device follow-up in clinic. There was lots of engagement and questions which made it a really interesting session.

If you attended and have any feedback about how it could be improved, please let us know!

Next meeting 12 July

We are back in the small room at Arbury Community Centre at 2pm on Wednesday 12 July.

A representative from Medtronic will be attending to demonstrate follow-up of cardiac devices and will be available to answer all your technical questions!

Resuscitation training

We are looking into arranging a session of basic life support (resuscitation) training, which can be life saving in the event of a cardiac arrest.

This would be open to our group members and their partners/relative/informal carers who may find it reassuring to have these skills.

We’d like to get an idea of numbers we’d be catering for, so if you and your partner/relative/carer would be interested in attending, please register your interest by emailing us at cambridgeheartbeats@gmail.com.

Next meeting 12th April 2023

Our next meeting is booked for 2pm in the small hall at Arbury Community Centre.

There will be a talk about the different cardiac conditions which are treated with cardiac device such as a pacemaker or ICD, to help us understand the similarities and differences between the devices and with eachother’s experiences.

As usual there will be an opportunity for question and answers, and chat with group members over a tea or coffee. New and old group members and partners, friends and family all welcome.

Heart Coach

We’ve been made aware of the below free course for people with a heart condition. This is not provided by Cambridge Heartbeats, but may be of interest to our members. Please contact the heart coach directly for more information.
